The steps to editing can be debatable. There is really no right or wrong. It's simply a matter of preferences. I take my request from my customer seriously. Making them happy is key to having long term customers. This customer per request wants to shave off some weight. Normally, I wouldn't go this far in slimming anyone down so much. My intuition is to make the editing natural as possible. Here is an example of the steps I took to get to the finished product.
1) Correct the overall lighting
2) Zoom into the small unwanted blemishes and splotches
3) Special request from customer
• Recolor of hair wreath flowers
• Slimming of her body, starting with arms & body, and then the neckline. Proportion check...
• Getting rid of the husband's shirt wrinkles
4) Smoothing of skin and enhancement of color
5) Background check, getting rid of unwanted back drop wrinkles & etc.
6) Overall quality check
• color
• lighting
• crop
• proportion
• compare to original for reference
7) Approval from customer, always save the original and work on a copy only
I hope that gave you an idea of the process it takes to edit a photo. From time to time, these steps will vary depending on the content of the image and its requests.
That being said, know that editing is no easy task. Especially when all these steps are taken to each and every single photo. My editing charge is nothing compared to what I should really be charging. I do it for the purpose of having happy returning customers. My prices are affordable because I want everyone to have memorable photos to share.
